- Reforming the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP)
The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) exacerbates flood risk by promoting floodplain and coastal development, while harming riverine and coastal ecosystems. A reformed NFIP that reduces development and redevelopment in our sensitive floodplains and coastal areas would obviate the need for many Corps of Engineers structural flood damage reduction projects that sever rivers from their floodplain and spread flood risks downstream. With more intense storms, sea level rise and flooding as a result of climate change, reforming the NFIP to better protect people, communities and the environment has never been more urgent.
- Congress Holding Hearings on the Water Resources Development Act of 2010 (WRDA 2010)
WRDA 2010 is the bill that authorizes the Corps of Engineers to study and construct navigation, flood control and restoration projects. On Oct. 18, 2009, and again on April 15, 2010 the House Subcommittee on Water Resources held hearings on the WRDA 2010. The Corps Reform Network is working to identify and pass additional Corps Reforms in the WRDA 2010.
